About Me
From a young age, art and creatures have been of great interest to me. I was one of those kids who learned everything they could about dinosaurs, and I watched David Attenborough’s documentaries more frequently than any of my friends. Also, I loved drawing so much that if my parents wanted to keep me busy for a while, all they had to do was hand me some paper and a pencil.
Because I wanted to design creatures, I had planned to go into concept art as a career. It was actually my allergist who pointed me towards scientific illustration as an alternative. I was interested, but I wasn’t sure if it was for me. That changed when I took my first life drawing class, and discovered my love of drawing bones and anatomy. It took a little while to be absolutely sure, but I had found the career that perfectly balanced my interests.
I’m more comfortable communicating through images rather than words, which makes sense given my profession. Add this to my fascination with the beautiful idiosyncrasies in nature, and you get my drive to make art that shows aspects of the natural world that people may not be familiar with.
Other things to know about me is that I’m from Minnesota and I love the cold, as anyone who lives in this state should. I absolutely adore ferrets, having grown up around them. Despite loving nature, I’m very much an indoors person. My hobbies include tabletop games, learning about mythology and folklore, and playing in a community taiko (Japanese drumming) group.
